Updated: Nov 26, 2023

~High Vida Media ~

Bringing you information and awareness that helps the community. On Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023 the Ethnic Media Services & The Federal Trade Commission brought us an important briefing that brings high awareness in the community !

"FTC breaks through language barriers to reach consumers Targeted by fraud."

~SCAMMERS~

~With shopping reaching unprecedented levels, scammers are capitalizing on the surge, targeting consumers, regular working citizens, and elders. Their tactics are versatile, as they approach victims in a myriad of languages. Thankfully the FTC breaks through language barriers to reach consumers targeted by fraud. Scammers speak your language , now you can report them to the FTC in your language. The FTC now takes reports in English and Spanish but in multiple languages from Arabic to Vietnamese, Mandarin and Korean to Somalia, Tagalog, Russian Polish, Portuguese and many more.

~BE AWARE~

Suspicious and rare request for money from identities un known , are major red flags on scammers . Especial scammers looking to steal your identity.

Example: Getting text messages from Amazon or other major stores asking for you to confirm or fill out further information will then lead you to an unsafe third-party host.

~THANK YOU~

I extend heartfelt appreciation to our guest speakers from the FTC :

Deputy Director- Monica Vaca

Senior Attorney- Larissa Bungo

Lawyer & Journalist -Jongwon Lee ,

and Ethnic Media Source for delivering this exceptional briefing! Keeping our community informed and safe is of utmost importance. Given Houston's diverse ethnicity, the ability to report fraud from scammers in various languages will undoubtedly enhance our community's resilience against scams.
